Sealing the grout can keep your grout clean for a much longer period of time on light to normal used floors. If you have a condo and you rent it out a lot do not bother sealing the grout. You are still going to need to clean the grout annually to maintain good looking grout. Expect to pay around 50 cents per square foot to clean your grout and an additional 50 cents per square foot to seal it. What it comes down to is budget and expectations. If you expect your grout to stay clean for two or three years get the grout sealed and mop with a solutions that will not remove the sealer. Bleach is bad for that matter any hard cleaner is bad. When mopping use a mild soppy water, we are walking on the floors not eating on them. If you are on a tight budget or know that you are going to clean the grout once a year do not bother spending the extra money on the sealer. You could ask the housekeeper your interviewing “do you do good work and are you reliable” obviously they are going to say they are the best. Save yourself a headache; get a few references and call them.
Money is always an issue when it comes to housekeeping. You want the best of everything for the least amount of money. I understand this but I also understand if a housekeeper is charging you $50 to clean your 2 bedroom 2.5 bath condo with hall bunks and a sleeper sofa they are not going to be your partner for long, at least not at that rate. I think I just hit an important point about partners one more important than money. Lets finish the money thought. Choose your housekeeper based on quality, reliability, services offered that meet your needs and then price is last. I know this goes without saying but you are not likely going to get the same level of service from an individual that charges $50 vs a company that charges a $100. You will likely get 70-80% of the service for half the price but can you afford 70% service in the long run. Dirty condos run customers off or they just don’t come back. If you loose one $2000 booking that $50 per cleaning you are saving will seem like nothing. Especially when you calculate you will have around 20 bookings a year so you would potentially save $1000 per year with the cheaper cleaner.
Obviously I am on a tangent but I do want to hit one more point. Find a partner. Your not down here so you need a trusted partner to be your eyes and ears. Someone who can take care of the things you can not. We view ourselves as our customer partners. We are constantly growing and offering more service. We have found that most owners need reliable cleaning service that is good, a person to take care of what ever problem comes up, someone to clean the carpets and take care of some maintenance here and there. We have started offering professional carpet cleaning services after researching the best equipment and chemicals for what seems like years. I just want to showoff a little demonstration of some grout we cleaned the other day; really tile. This is at the Majestic Beach Towers in Panama City Beach. The grout was not to bad but the tiles wore horrible. We tried cleaning these tiles with deck scrubbers, magic sponge mops, bleach, you name it we tried it but the dirt just would not come up.
